Conference Time: 2:50 – 3:40                                     Telephone: (936) 829-5626

Room: B10                                                                 E-mail Address: [email protected]

Course Description: The students will study the properties of geometric figures in zero, one, two, and three dimensions and apply these properties in problem solving and real-world situations. They will also learn about transformations of these figures and its implications and uses. The students will also develop inductive and deductive reasoning skills as they write proofs to prove the validity of the geometric properties discussed. There will be an emphasis on problem solving, communicating mathematics, and connecting mathematics with the real world.

Campus Rules:
1. No one may leave class during Axe Time
2. The teacher dismisses the class (not the bell)
3. Students will remain seated during instruction (unless otherwise instructed)

5. Respect the teacher, your peers, and yourself

Required Supplies: 3-ring binder, notebook paper, graphing calculator (rent for $10 in the library), mechanical pencils, a black or blue pen, a red pen, and a spiral notebook (for daily warm-ups)

Grading Information and Percentages for each Semester
Nine weeks average: 67% Test and Major Projects
33% Daily Grades (homework and warm-ups)

Test Policy: Unit tests will be announced at least one week in advance of the test date. The tests will be broken up into objectives which will each have its own test grade. The tests will be graded according to a mastery scale. The students will be required to test on the test date regardless of absences, and it is the student's responsibility to come in for tutorials or get notes from a friend whenever a student misses class. If a student is absent on a test day, it is the student's responsibility to come in before or after school to take the test on the first day the student returns to school.

Test Retakes: If you do not reach the mastery level on one or more objectives on a test, you will be given an incomplete for that objective and will have to retake it until passed. It will be the responsibility of the student to come in for tutoring over that objective's material before a retake will be allowed, which must also be done during tutoring before or after school. If the student still does not master the objective(s), an additional retake will be allowed after an additional session of tutorials. If at any time a student masters the objective, the mastery score will be given. If after three attempts the student has not mastered an objective, a score will be given based on the previous attempts. That score can be changed should the student continue to attempt to master the objective.

Make-up work: All assignments that are collected must be made up if you were absent when it was assigned. Tests must be made up within one week of the date missed. It is your responsibility to come for tutoring over missed lessons before the next scheduled test. If by Thursday morning of any given week you still have zeroes for missing work or have not come in for a missed test, you will be assigned Friday Night Live to get it done.

Homework: Homework is an integral part of any math class and geometry is no exception. Count on having an assignment about one to two nights each week.

Extra Help: Tutoring will be available after school Monday - Thursday starting at 3:40 until completed; however, if no one has shown up by 4:00, I will leave. If you need additional tutoring, just let me know and we can make arrangements.

Calculators: In Geometry, we use TI-84 Plus graphing calculators. It is recommended that you rent one from the library within the first week of school. The rental fee is $10. If you have your own, you may use it as well.

Remind: Periodically, I will send out mass reminders about tests, projects, etc. I encourage you to download the “Remind” app and enter class code “@2968c” or text the number (772) 261-2782 with the message “@2968c”, if you wish to receive them.

Other Concerns: If at any time you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. E-mail is the best way to reach me to increase the likelihood of same day response.
